Meet Me In Paris

Meet Me In Paris

Spend five days studying painting in Paris, one of the most picturesque cities in the world. With a focus on portraiture, the ‘Meet Me in Paris’ workshop will explore the process of exciting your inner muse.

Study in an intimate setting with world-class 3rd generation portrait artist Anastasia Egeli. and experience the journey of an artist. Over a five day period you will learn to experience the world and the art around you in a more intimate way. The connection to self, new lifelong friends , and the art of past spirits will enrich you for the rest of your life.

5 day workshop includes

Day one

9:30 am

We meet for coffee and discuss our objective for the day as a group and individually.

10:00 am

We will do a 20 min meditation focused on body awareness.

10:30 -12:30

We will sketch the model focusing on their particularly style of occupying their body. The way someone occupies space is a function of every thought and every feeling they have about themselves in the present moment. For example, a very athletic person or a person who is constantly looking for an adventure or opportunity will have a very specific way the muscles in their neck curve. Practicing self awareness first, we lead your natural empathy to experience the model more intimately as well.

1-2:30

We will enjoy a lunch together or you may opt out for a nap.

3-5pm

We will visit Musee de L`Orangerie and study the works of Henri Matisse and Marie Laurencin. Both artists succed in capturing the particular charcteristics of their subject. The artist’s ability to see and to emphasize particular gestures brings an intimacy to the work. These insights demands a deeper tenderness from the viewer. The viewer is lovingly present for the way the subject occupies the physical world. In this way these portraits invite a tenderness for the viewer themselves as well.

Day 2

9:30 am

We meet for coffee and discuss our objective for the day as a group and individually.

10:00 am

We set an intention for ourselves and learn to hold that while meditating practicing letting go and being in loving presence. The practice of watching our thoughts helps and artist distinguish between thoughts that do not support what we have decided to do, express, or create in our time together.

10:30-12:30

We will paint a composition based on a conversation with the model. What are their dreams? Are they clear or tentative at this moment in their life? How can our portrayal of them support their manifestation of the life they dream of for themselves. Here we will create that vision using color, objects. symbols, or anything else that will empower their vision. Our painting will be a our visual manifestation. ( similiar to a dream board)

1-2:30

Again, we will enjoy a lunch together or you may opt out for a nap.

3-5pm

We will visit the Louvre day two. Klimt experienced love and intimacy as a jewel. He literally used gold leaf as an element in his compositions. Adoration and the merging of souls is a promise in this painting for the two portrayed and all of us who experience this painting. The Mona Lisa is a wonderful classic example of this element in portrait painting. She is a vision of a woman with the promise of a life of abundance and contentment.

Day 3

9:30 am

We meet for coffee and discuss our objective for the day as a group and individually.

10:00 am

We will do a 20 min meditation with Tara Brach focused on flow through the body.

10:30-12:30

We will paint. Day three will focus on rhythm that flows through the body. Every individual has a particularly pattern that repeats itself everywhere. It’s as particular as a fingerprint. The wing shape present in everyone also acts as a visual prompt that invites your eye to move through the body. We all navigate the world relying on this pattern. It’s how we recognize someone off in the distance. Day three we will learn to see this shape and paint it.

 1-2:30

Again, we will enjoy a lunch together or you may opt out for a nap.

3-5pm

We will visit the Musée Rodin. Rodin’s intimacy with an individual’s rhythm is unrivaled. His work is sensual and exciting. One can literally feel his models aliveness. Rhythm is what gives a two dimensional piece its aliveness.

Day 4

 9:30 am

We meet for coffee and discuss our objective for the day as a group and individually.

10:00 am

We will do a 20 min breath work session to open up heart space and expand our ability to feel.

10-12:30

Passion is an essential element in creating any piece of art. Regardless of whether you know the anatomy of the body well and  your draftsman skills are exquisite, passion is what connects the work to your viewer. How does life make you feel when you visually engage with it. Maybe at this moment you put down your brush and pick up a pencil. Maybe you pick up a camera because you feel impatient.

We will observe the model and observe our heart. The need to express should compare to the energy of a racehorse behind the starting gate at a steeple chase. There is a reason Luxembourg Garden is decorated with sculptures of the passions!

1-2:30

Again, we will enjoy a lunch together or you may opt out for a nap.

 3-5pm

We will visit Musée Marmottan-Monet. This museum houses an extensive collection of impressionist paintings. While we could visit the Louvre again, it’s important we commune with the unruly painting of the impressionist. They did not paint academically. They did not plan. They reacted. They painted from life from energy.

Berthe Morisot and Renoir are both artists featured at this museum. The ravenous gaze with which they paint is exactly the energy of the whole heart engagement.

Day 5

9:30 am

We meet for coffee and discuss our objective for the day as a group and individually.

10:00 am

We set an intention again for ourselves with our final painting and learn to hold that while meditating letting go and being in loving presence.

10:30am - 2pm

We will use All of our skills to create a masterpiece.

2-3:30pm

Again, we will enjoy a lunch together or you may opt out for a nap. Perhaps a champagne lunch.

4-6pm  Museum choice will be determined by the group and where we feel would be the most delighted . Luxembourg gardens or Montemarte are both enchanting.
